Based on TaTEDO’s vision and mission, as well as experiences gained over the years, the key result areas that are envisaged during the 2026 to 2031 strategic plan period have shaped the organization’s functional areas, strategies as well as key activities. TaTEDO activities will focus on providing support services, fostering an enabling environment and developing social enterprises.

Reaching households with the information they need to make informed energy choices is not a one-time event, it is a sustained commitment. During May and June 2026, SESCOM (Sustainable Energy Services Company Limited) and TaTEDO-Sustainable Energy Services Organization (TaTEDO-SESO), demonstrated exactly that commitment through an intensive series of consumer outreach campaigns, public exhibitions, live cooking demonstrations, and high-level stakeholder engagements across multiple regions of Tanzania is key in accelerating transition to clean cooking.

TaTEDO – Sustainable Energy Services Organization (TaTEDO-SESO) successfully convened its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) at its headquarters in Mbezi Juu, Dar es Salaam. The meeting brought together Board Members, management, staff, and members from across the country to review the organization's performance, celebrate achievements, endorse plans for the year ahead, and reinforce the foundation for long-term, sustainable growth.

In the communities where TaTEDO-SESO has worked for over three decades, cooking is never just cooking. It is the first task of the morning and often the last of the evening. It is the invisible labour that keeps families alive, the smoke that darkens lungs, the wood that must be collected before dawn breaks. And, as a growing body of evidence now makes unmistakably clear, it is one of the most powerful levers we have to advance gender equality in Tanzania.

Across the coastal districts of Tanzania and Ruvuma Landscape, a quiet but powerful transformation is under way. Women's groups, youth entrepreneurs, and small food vendors are turning efficient charcoal baking ovens into profitable micro-enterprises reducing fuel costs, conserving forest resources, and opening new income streams for hundreds of families. This is not a pilot experiment. It is a proven, replicable model tested in twelve districts over seven years, and the results speak for themselves.

Tanzania stands at a defining moment in its energy history. Blessed with some of Africa's most abundant renewable energy resources including solar, hydro, wind, geothermal, and biomass, yet long constrained by financing barriers, regulatory uncertainty, and low private-sector engagement, the country is now poised to unlock the transformative power of clean energy. A landmark study commissioned by TaTEDO-Sustainable Energy Services Organization (TaTEDO-SESO), implemented in partnership with WWF Tanzania Country Office under the Africa Energy Transition (AET) Programme, charts a practical roadmap for investors, policymakers, and development actors seeking to seize this opportunity.

Under the Africa Energy Transition Project, TaTEDO-SESO partnered with WWF and the IMED Foundation to pilot an integrated business development programme for sustainable energy SMEs. In seven months, five women-led enterprises in biomass briquettes and seaweed solar drying processing acquired certifications, secured institutional contracts, recorded a 306% peak revenue surge, and built a combined climate finance pipeline exceeding USD 250,000.

Tanzania has entered a decisive and structurally significant transition phase in clean cooking. Since the 2022 MECS market assessment, the landscape has been transformed by the National Clean Cooking Strategy (NCCS 2024–2034), rapidly expanding electricity infrastructure, and installed generation capacity now stands at 3,404 MW, anchored by the 2,115 MW Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project, and proven Electric Pressure Cooker (EPC) technology. Tanzania is now recognised as one of the highest-potential eCooking markets in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Tanzania is making tangible progress in transforming how its public institutions cook. TaTEDO-Sustainable Energy Services Organization (TaTEDO-SESO) and SEECO have led a major intervention that is already delivering measurable results by replacing inefficient, smoke-filled three-stone fires with scientifically validated high-efficiency institutional firewood stoves in primary schools and training centres across the country.

Tanzania is at a defining inflection point in its clean cooking transition, moving decisively from pilot-scale innovation to nationally coordinated scale-up.
